Wowzers, it’s getting quite chilly! It seems like only three weeks ago, we were enjoying the last rays of summer sunshine and spending our days at Singing Beach.
Now, we’re transitioning into our autumnal routine - namely wearing lots of layers and drinking pumpkin spice lattes! Here in our temperate climate, New England always seems to have something to offer, no matter the season. Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year here in Massachusetts, and during this unprecedented time of social distancing and stay-at-home measures, we should do our utmost best to try to get out and enjoy nature!
We all have our own fall traditions, and I thought I’d share some fun activities that I absolutely adore during this season!
First and foremost, apple picking! You can’t call yourself a proud Massachusetts resident if you’ve never gone apple picking at one of our wonderful local apple orchards! One particular orchard that seems to be a staple of this season is picturesque Russell Orchards Farm and Winery in Ipswich! They are currently open for “Pick Your Own” apple picking daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all days except for Mondays! They offer a wide variety, from McIntosh to Jonagold and Cortland to Empire - not to mention Macoun!
Please note - their procedures have changed a bit this year! They don’t require reservations, but they do request that you bring your mask and are willing to wear it for the safety of others around you! Prior to entering the field, you will be given a set of safety instructions as dictated by the MA state government - after that, you are free to peruse the orchard.
And for those at higher risk because of their age - Russell Orchards has you covered! 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. have been set aside as “Senior Only” hours.
Be sure to visit their website at
Russell Orchards for a full list of the amenities and experiences offered by Russell Orchards, and to read up on their Covid-19 guidelines.
Now, get out there and explore the North Shore!
Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay happy!
